Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), based at Jaipur (under KVIC, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) is devoted to the betterment of Indian handmade paper industry since the very beginning of its inception. The institute is committed to provide state of art technology management to Indian handmade paper industry through continuous research, human resource development and support to the entrepreneurs in bringing up rural industrialization, ensuring environmental friendly practices, maintaining social and communal harmony, revitalization of ancient arts and crafts with modernization at affordable cost. The institute has been acclaimed a world-class institute and only of its kind in the area of handmade paper in the whole of Asia. Besides an ISO-9001:2008 certified institution; KNHPI has been recognized by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Govt. of India.

Project Consultancy for Handmade Papermaking

Under Project Consultancy for Handmade Papermaking activities, the project reports are prepared as Techno-economic feasibility reports. Number of such project reports had been prepared by the institute. Consultancy on turn key basis is also provided by the institute. Institute also takes up projects to revive the sick units. Handmade paper projects were implemented at DIC Jorhat, Monpa Society Mukto, EPCO Bhopal, SFURTI Cluster Radaur, APCFM project Kadapa. Base line surveys were done for Jharkhand and Rayagada. The project reports were prepared for pine needle pulp for RuTAG, SFURTI Cluster Radaur, projects under DST New Delhi and projects under S&T KVIC Mumbai.

KNHPI Pilot-Plant Activities, the trials of lab scale work are taken on commercial scale to assess the techno-economic feasibility of the technology developed through research work at lab. All the raw materials & technologies developed have been successfully tried in the Pilot Plant. The paper for files & folders for Reserve Bank Of India is made at the KNHPI Pilot-Plant Activities are Shredded currency waste for various branches of RBI as per their requirements. Tissue paper from banana fibre is also manufactured for various museums, libraries and conservators. Blotting paper is another specialty of the institute.

KNHPI Product Development Cell nurture innovations in product design and development. Innovations in product design at the institute has developed exclusive handmade papers and various paper products with 100% eco-friendly credentials:

• Insulation paper/boards
• Handmade paper and board and 8-10 GSM tissue paper for archival and other applications from banana and other natural fibers.
